Just before Christmas last year, I spent four days in the hospital. It was an unexpected pause in my life, a moment of forced stillness where I had nothing to do but think. In that quiet space, I reevaluated my values and questioned my path. I asked myself what truly brought me joy and fulfillment. What or what pieces of my work have been the most fulfilling in my career?
The more I thought about it, the clearer the answer became: coaching.
Throughout my 20-year leadership and marketing career, I have experienced many moments of professional success. They felt great. However, the moments that stand out and fill my memory with great detail and the ones that filled me with a deep sense of purpose, are the times when I was coaching others.
Over the past few years, I helped a corporate trainer transition into product marketing. I guided a product manager to evolve into an analyst relations specialist and a field chief technology officer. I worked with my friends over at IBSS to build their Total Assure business unit from the ground up, coaching them on marketing, go-to-market tactics, budgeting, etc. I worked closely with entrepreneurs and first-time CEOs, equipping them with the marketing and management strategies needed to grow their businesses. These weren’t just career highlights—they were deeply fulfilling experiences that gave me a sense of purpose beyond traditional corporate success.
Taking a forced four-day rest in the hospital made me realize that these moments of joy weren’t random. They were a pattern, a clear indication of where my passion and strengths aligned. I wasn’t just good at coaching, I truly love it. I thrive on seeing people grow, succeed, and reach their full potential. I have always wanted to start my own business. It was time to stop treating coaching as a side effort and make it the center of my professional life.
Taking the Leap
So, I threw caution to the wind and started my own coaching and consulting business. TorquePath Coaching & Consulting. The name reflects exactly what I aim to do: help leaders and businesses find their torque, their driving force, and set them on the right path to success.
To fortify my capabilities, I look forward to investing my resources into training to earn the International Coaching Federation’s Associate Certified Coach and Professional Certified Coach credentials over the coming months.
I know that the transition from a corporate career to entrepreneurship isn’t easy. I have spent nearly 20 years in leadership roles, driving marketing strategies and business growth, but building something of my own from the ground up is a different challenge. However, the risk is worth it. I am aligning myself with my personal mission.
